LAUGHTER YOGA
Laughter Yoga is the practice of choosing to laugh. This is often referred to as "laughing for no reason" because we’re not laughing at jokes or humor. But, we’re not actually laughing for no reason. We’re choosing to laugh to create joy. Just like you would practice meditation to become more mindful, you can practice laughter to become more joyful.
Laughter Yoga exercises combine voluntary laughter with childlike playfulness. Most people find that once they begin practicing laughter yoga, it quickly evolves into involuntary laughter or some combination of voluntary and involuntary laughter. Fake it till you make it, as they say.
Some laughter exercises use specific laughter sounds like "ho," "ha" and "he," while other laughter exercises are more like improv games with laughter. We hope to provide you with a potpourri of laughter exercises and we encourage you to invent your own exercises as well. While it’s encouraged that you avoid jokes and humor by exploring childlike playfulness, there are no “wrong” laughter exercises.
If it doesn't feel organic, don't be discouraged! It will feel less uncomfortable over time as you shed your inhibitions. Please note, it doesn’t matter whether you're laughing because it's fake, fun, funny, awkward, absurd or insane because you're still getting the benefits from your laughter practice. Check out our benefits page to learn more about the physical, mental, emotional and energetic benefits of laughter.
